Re: Saving The Planet

George Carlin is right in part, the earth will take care of it's self, it's the earth's ability to support life man is effecting. The earth, since it's beginning, has been in a constant state of evolution, ever changing. Man has absolutely no control over this and must adapt to survive. What man is doing is speeding up earth's climate evolution. Throughout it's existence the earth has evolved from a frozen rock , and through billions of years alternated between ice ages and warm periods ,as well as periods of high and low oxygen, It's only been in the last 800 million years that the earth produced enough oxygen to sustain life as we know it today. Man's pollution ,whilst may not be destroying the earth, is destroying the earth's ability to support life as we know it. All life lives till the species has met it's potential, then replaced by a species more suitable for the existing environment. Tis true when George Carlin says the earth will recover, but this could take 1 million years. Some theoretical physicist estimate the earths remaining life span to be between 1.75-3.25 billion years, before it goes out into the "hot zone"; at the rate man is going he will be residing amongst the stars long before then. Estimates though, predict it will take another 100 years before man has the technology to colonize space.

Re: Saving The Planet

The Earth is and always will be a life supporting planet, until the time when the sun disappears or until such time when man blocks out the sun (The international community has already considered ways to block the sun under the excuse of reducing the impact of climate change.)

The conditions for life here are the sun, water and the earth itself (soil).

Nothing else Man does will ever change this imo.

Man may well create conditions that make it impossible for man to live, such as a nuclear holocaust but he is no threat to the planet itself. There are already animals happily roaming around Chernobyl where man can not tread anymore.

Nature will keep on recycling species as she has done for billions of years.

Whilst it is true the earth has recycled life for billions of years, it does mean for sure man will be one of those life forms.
As it is impossible to know if either side of this argument is true, one can only theorize; man(the species) better hope you're right.
