£700,000 Cash Stash....!!!!!

The owner of my local Chippy has been jailed for two and half years for tax evasion and excise duty evasion!!!!!!!!
They found £700,000 in cash in envelopes and containers hidden under his bed, under bushes in his garden, in his garage and around his shop. They also found 12,000 cartons of cigarettes in his shop which he sold from 'under the counter'.

Just can't imagine seeing all that money in cash!

Always said his fish and chips were a little over-priced

Wow! sounds like he had a big fraudulent business going on there! I just can't imagine anyone having that amount of cash around the house .....I don't think I would have been able to sleep at night for fear of break-ins

I wonder how he was found out

Must have been a tip off Mags.....paper just says they searched his home and shop and that it was like a game of hide and seek when they kept finding money.

No way I could have slept at night either, but he won't be bothered now as they have confiscated all his cash and cigarettes.

Have got to say it was the best chippy in town-very popular, open 7 days a week and there was always a queue........

A lot of it goes on unfortunately - makes my blood boil that people don't pay their fair share of taxes!

Am sure it does Azz, and I agree with you-its the one thing that really annoys me-I've paid my taxes all my working life, and am still paying tax on my pensions......shouldn't think he's paid any for long time with that amount of money found......

Very stupid. The tax men will catch you eventually. Better to pay your taxes as you should and invest that remaining cash in a dividend bearing asset instead of having it sitting around the premises in shoeboxes or under the mattress. Too bad he didn't have a burglar ... that would have been one very surprised and happy burglar!

Do you mean you are not allowed to keep your cash in the home!

Maybe he just liked looking at it and lets face it, the money would have more interest shown to it than the banks do these days.

'Give onto Caesar what is Caesar's'. We all know must pay our fair share of taxes and we accept that fact. Obviously this person was doing very well and there was no need to cheat, it just goes to show you when the chips are down, greed wins in the end.
