OZ and NZ to host 2023 Soccer World Cup

Australia and New Zealand have been successful in their historic joint bid to host the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

The trans-Tasman bid beat out that of Colombia by 22 votes to 13 at the FIFA Council meeting in Zurich early this morning.

The tournament will be the first co-confederation-hosted FIFA World Cup (Australia, being part of the Asian football confederation and New Zealand a member of the Oceanic branch), as well as the first FIFA Women's World Cup to be held in the Asia-Pacific region.

The European bastards voted as a bloc for Columbia once again ensuring they were on the losing side as usual.

The joint bid was favourite to win after the technical audit scores were released at the beginning of June, which indicated the capability of a country to host the large-scale event.

I doubt that anybody here other than us, Swannie and Ciders are interested in Australia and New Zealand's win Bruce. The UK voted for Columbia. But it's early days yet.

I am really pleased to hear this! We also have the women's rugby and cricket in 2021/22. I love watching the women play all three codes. Not only are they good players most are really good looking too! When you see them tackling in rugby you realise there's not all that much difference between men and women.

You're probably right, the UK is not really well known as a sporting nation.

I am an AFL and Rugby Union man but I love women's soccer. They play hard but fair and don't go on with all the wet crap and bullshit that the men do. I'm not the slightest bit interested in men's soccer at any level. But the women are awesome. And there is never a hooligan in sight.

I agree Keezoy! My dad was a good soccer player and I captained the school First XI at soccer but I hardly even watch a game nowadays. I learned that for both soccer and rugby you have to be a good actor. In soccer you have to persuade the ref that you have been deliberately hurt when nobody actually touched you and in rugby you have to act as if your wrist isn't broken! Bloody 'Hollywoods'!

Ah, I get it now.

Actually, I saw a bit of women's football last season and thoroughly enjoyed it.
