Re: Knife Crime - Petition to Parliament

They're going to have to build a helluva lot more prisons if those found with knives get 10 yrs,and those using get 15..where's the money for that and hundreds more prison officers going to come from..The Policeforce has already been cut to the bone....don't know the answer to this problem,

Not so "simples":

https://www.gov.uk/police-powers-to-...ch-your-rights

Police powers to stop and search: your rights

The police can stop and question you at any time - they can search you depending on the situation.

A police community support officer (PCSO) must be in uniform when they stop and question you. A police officer doesn’t always have to be in uniform but if they’re not wearing uniform they must show you their warrant card.

And so the police don’t stop and search but invest instead in more body bags , there is an argument that’s a better longer term approach ... you stop certain community members complaining profiling is racist and after they’ve all stabbed every other gang member the problem will ( pun intended ) die out

Police officers need to be a PART of the communities they police.

Most police officers rub these communities up the wrong way and these communities will NOT engage. The Police engage in inappropriate contact and target the wrong people They have to change the way they police these affected communities

This is a multi-layered and complex problem and signing petitions will not take a single knife out of the hands of a young person in a gang who's frightened every time he walks out on the street.
Haven't seen a copper (apart from traffic police out to catch motorists) for ages .
How does engagement with the community work ?
