There are couple of things I can recommend Floydy. I also have trouble sleeping when it is too hot. The first simple thing I have found that helps is to lay a towel over my pillow. I'm not quite sue why it helps but it does, perhaps more air circulation rather than being stuck to the pillow. The other thing is that I sometimes sleep downstairs although I realise that might not be possible when you are sleeping during the day.

I, too have to keep my windows closed at night during the summer as a fair bit of noise can be heard even at night.
