Before I go...

...to bed.
Can I ask you if you recognise this saying, when you feel that little cold shiver like there's something creepy afoot, "A donkey just walked over my grave!" ?

I'm sure my Mum used to say it, however my kids say I made it up.

Just because I make up strange little sayings like, "If a camel walked in this room, I wouldn't say anything!" when I'm too knackered to notice stuff going on.

My Grandma used to say that, TessA, also, occasionally, a Goose walked over my grave'. Haven't heard either one since she died.

Re: Before I go...

I've never heard the phrase including any animals.

The only one I know is "Someone just walked over my grave".

I was wondering on the choice of donkey and goose. Then I thought that maybe both donkeys and geese used to be allowed to graze in churchyards, to keep the grass down, so maybe that was why.

Re: Before I go...

Yes I heard it as someone's just walked over my grave never heard of animals involved.

I heard of drop the dead donkey....meaning a whimsical story or news item that can be dropped if a more significant news story comes up....poor donkeys

That's the only version I know of too. I could never really understand what it meant.

Re: Before I go...

Tess, perhaps you would prefer 'Someone just walked over my beard.'
