'Renewable' sources of energy can not provide all the power we need, particularly for industry. Coal has effectively been 'outlawed' (though not in other countries, including Germany), so we have a clear choice:

make greater use of nuclear power,
restore the use of coal, or
go back to horses and carts and wood fires!
