Dounreay is just a wee bit along the coast from me, I pass it several times a week on my way to Strathy Beach. There is a lovely beach beside the reactor called Sandside but I've never set foot on it, don't trust it to be safe from leaks.
Dirty is the right word. The amount of material both discharged not to mention leaked and now contaminates great swathes of the coast is shocking. Plutonium being one.
Why plutonium from a "power station"?
Don't ask.
Plutonium is most horrid. The radiation it emits is particle in nature that rips the hell out of DNA and so is highly carcinogenic.
