Gp/ nhs

I had a scan a few weeks back, arranged by my GP, I now have to have a more invasive scan, my GP said.

So I thought he would arrange that for me like the last one, it turns out I have to make my own appt, with a referral letter that I received in the post.

I tried ringing for appt, but the wait was far to long, plus it wasn’t a free number,...I guess this is the way forward for us now, so I went online and made the appt.

What about people who don’t have Internet access ,little money, then racking up a phone bill, it just seems unfair to me, so I’m having a rant.

You're right Pauline
That doesn't seem right at all.

And what about those who are easily confused and worried
I would imagine it would seem like a mountain to climb for them
Patient care should be from the off and followed through meticulously.

Well said,Rhian, I couldn’t agree more,I’m not computer savvy, it really worried me, that’s why I rang first, but the wait seemed to go on and on, I then decided to go online and make an appointment.

I failed the first time, because they hadn’t given me a pass code number on my referral letter, I then phoned the surgery, after a load of questions, they then gave me the pass code.what a carry on.

Making an appointment is a PITA
You have to ring up at 800 am along with a hundred or so others . Unless you make it on the nano second they turn the answering machine off you are stuck in the queue and may not get an appointment at the end of it.

It’s a £#@()’ disgrace, I phoned at about 5 mins to nine am, to order a repeat prescription , she then proceeded to say, they don’t take orders until 9 am, I never knew this and asked if she could make an allowance, no, she said,

Our surgery is like that too. I don't ring them at all, I pray to whatever Gods that I never have to, too.

I have never come across this, my doctor has always made appointments for specialists. Apart from anything else they get you in quicker because specialists always have places kept for new referrals. On one occasion that was the next but one day.

You have to expect to pay cash and claim back from Medicare later until you are a pensioner when it is usually bulk billed

I'll join that rant Pauline and heartily agree. It really, really irritates the pants off me.

That's my short answer.
