A simple sworn statement saying that PA had no recollection

Andrew has now laid himself and his family open to ridicule and the toe-curling interview served no useful purpose at all. A dignified silence would have served them better.
yep, standing on the balcony and waving at the plebs and staying silent is best alround.Whats the saying"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt".

I disagree on one small point.

The Queen (and until recently, Phil the Greek).

Do you believe that ambassadors and the like (governors of foreign territories, etc) do not do any work?

The Queen works as an ambassador, and a great deal more. It has been said that, in doing what she does, she brings in more money to the country than most other people.

If you add to that the fact that she is still working at an age when most people have been retired for decades, and surely you cannot suggest that she leeches off the state.

Having said all that, forget all the others. Most of them do nothing to justify their existence.

Charlie-boy has, belatedly, been roped in taking over some of the Queen's duties as she becomes less able to cope. Eventually, William is likely to do the same.

No. The hangers-on do not justify any state aid. They should all pay their own way unless, of course, they also take on responsibilities, and work as hard, as the Queen does.

Andrew, of course, appears to do bugger all.

Good post JB, and Muddy as usual......

To be honest though, I'm getting sick of the media hounding of Andrew like dogs with a bone.....Either charge him with something or leave the bloke alone.....

Yep. Pretty much agree with all that Meg.

Age of consent varies from state to state, most commonly it's 16.

Re: The Prince Andrew interview

Personally, I have no real beef with there being a monarchy since I'm sure some of it produces useful outcomes. Also, the quaint pomp can tend to bring a feeling of comradery at times.

However, there is definitely a strong case for reducing the number of those who feel that they have a divine right to get all the benefits and trappings while, at the same time, singularly fail to maintain the standards that are prerequisite to this. If they don't want to be a part of the family "business", then they should quit and do other things. By and large, it seems that Prince Edward has.
