BTW you did'nt fully answer my question about the five year delay

And l believe that EU Skippers should,as of this moment be
applying to US for fishing licences, we should start as we mean to go
on! Make it clear they WILL get their licence, but they MUST apply

I am afraid that now Barmier has come out with this last utterance
I have even less confidence in this "deal"!!
Donkeyman! 👎👎
PS. From your last post it seems that Boris& Barmy are allready at
loggerheads? Maybe there's hope for us yet!!
Re: your last bit: yes they are.
And indeed there is hope.
But to fishing and I have to be honest; quite why there's so much fuss over a relatively small contribution to our country is baffling.
As we were constantly told throughout the latter stages of "negotiations", fishing accounts for only 0.1% of the UK economy.
Even hugely increasing capacity isn't going to equate to fishing contributing very much towards our economy.
We've established that we have sovereignty over our waters and can do with them as we want, but that (as with everything in life) there would be consequences for actions taken.
Here's what the (remain-biased, remember) BBC says:
"Under plans outlined in the deal, EU fishing quota in UK waters will be reduced by 15% in the first year and 2.5 percentage points each year after.
By 2026, it's estimated that UK boats will have access to an extra £145m of fishing quota every year. In 2019, British vessels caught 502,000 tonnes of fish, worth around £850m, inside UK waters. "
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/46401558
The UK's economy is around £2,200 billion per year.
When fishing is such a miniscule part of that and note that it will increase - and they are now indisputably sovereign waters too - complaining that things could be better is a bit daft.
Compared to say the financial sector it's so ridiculous as to be ludicrous to grumble about a few fish.
