If your child shot another child - would you say it was an accident?

A young boy has been shot and killed by his young friend. It is being described by the police as an accident.
Now, I find this very hard to stomach. If I let my child play with a bottle of acid, or a box of razor blades, I would expect to be prosecuted. But apparently it`s OK for a child to play with a loaded air-gun.
Does anyone else feel that parents are getting away with murder?

It's illegal for a child under the age of 14 to handle an air gun without adult supervision so if they were playing with it someone should be charged IMO.

Ultimately that means the owner of the gun, these guns come under the Firearms Act and are not toys, the SNP had plans to ban them up here but as usual it was pie-in-the-sky.

It was a very preventable accident IMO. If that was my child in someone else's care I would want a prosecution.

Guns! Why?????

The 'one child shooting/pointing at another' scenario is like the plot of Jodi Picoult's 19 Minutes. Have you read it? (Sorry to digress)

I'm among the lonely few Americans who think guns should be banned here! Not gonna' happen. The NRA lobby is too powerful. That was a tragedy, and the parents should be held responsible IMO. Why did he have access to it?

Yes, I enjoyed Picoult's 19 Minutes, DM.

Finding it difficult to understand how it can be described as an accident, and what on earth were they doing with loaded air-guns. It would seem that more and more these days that some parents just don't take responsibility for their child's actions and its about time that they did. This is a tragedy that shouldn't have happened and the parents should be held accountable.
