It's quite a rare condition Maryl and is an indolent (slow-growing) non-Hodgkin lymphoma (cancer that begins in the cells of the immune system). One of the symptoms can be hyperviscosity, in which the blood becomes abnormally thick. Unfortunately my sister-in-law has it.

For Mollie
I didn't fully appreciate that your experience with blood donation was all those years ago Mollie - and if your doctor said it was normal for you and there was nothing to worry about that's great.

Re: Blood Donors

It's okay Rena. It's my fault for not saying how long ago it was. I really would have loved to give blood, but I couldn't do it then, and I can't do it now.

Thank you Rena, I am so sorry your sister-in-law-has this awful disease. So very sad. I feel you were correct to mention this to Mollie, as it's talking amongst ourselves that we often find out things. Fortunately Mollie's in the clear. I've never heard of it but I now I have.

Re: Blood Donors

That's very true, Mary. We can be just chatting along about something and nothing then, out of the blue, we learn something we've never heard of.

Sorry to hear about your sister-in-law having that dreadful illness, Rena.
