Re: Moss on roof

Tpin, thank you darlin', no I don't want it painted, but the chap who is probably doing the job did say about 'treating' the tiles with something to stop regrowth. I am now scared it might be poisonous. I don't want any poisons round my animals.
Do you know what stuff he might mean? Also, any very rough idea what I should expect to have to pay?

Re: Moss on roof

How big is the roof?

No one can give a rough idea without seeing it......it could be the size of Buck House or as small as a rabbit hutch.

Example below £200-£250ish.

Yes I suppose there are daft handymen about and conmen.
In truth I have never used one.
Mainly because I always surrounded myself with people who knew what they were doing.
I have been on many a roof in my years putting up ariels or dishes or replacing old broken tiles, even repointing chimney stacks.
Steep and slightly slanted and never had a tile break underfoot.

I've been on hundreds of roofs and broken thousands of tiles....

Re: Moss on roof

I have moss on the roof, not a problem I have the gutters cleaned regularly by the window cleaner .

Two neighbours had the moss removed for silly money and were talked into having a special coating applied to stop the moss returning. I only know because they approached me to have mine done as well .

A few years down the line and the moss is back.
I can have my gutters cleaned for 26 years for the price my neighbours paid for having the roof cleaned

I quite like to see the moss, it provides an extra layer of insulation and any bits that drop off come in handy as a mulch in the garden

Re: Moss on roof

Some companies wash the roof and coat it with tile paint to make the roof look newer.
How hideous a bit like stuck on mock Tudor beams and fake stone cladding ....

Re: Moss on roof

The main problem with moss is on shallow pitched roofs...they clog the drainage chanels on the interlock and can cause water ingress....this runs down the underfelt to barge/fascia boards causing rot which will not show until it's too late.
