I learned to make gulyásleves in my teens. Properly done, it takes hours.
Now there's something I've missed teaching my daughters... simply because it is so time consuming. I refuse to take short cuts with the family recipe! Egri Bikaver is perfect to sip with a big, hearty bowl of gulyás. (Pronounce it "gu-yash" with just a hint of the letter "L" after the "gu" and that's close.)

You should meet my lovely neighbour Annie Jack, she is Hungarian but due to the problems in Hungary when she was young her family were moved to many places. They lived in the Dominican Republic, Austria, goodness knows where else but finally settled in Sweden. Rozalie has many photos of herself and her family from all those years ago, although now of course she is a Swedish citizen but she still speaks Hungarian and she has some amazing stories.|
