Suspended coffee - started in Italy

I heard this today and checked snopes.com to see if it was true. What a simple thing to do... and what a difference it could make to someone's day. I hope it catches on here.

Full story.

Patrons buy a "suspended" coffee which means they pre-pay for someone who can't afford a hot drink. The system is anonymous.

Yes I have seen this too. It was in the US and they go in Starbucks and
buy two coffees. They get a receipt for the extra one. Stick it on a board
and someone who cant afford it takes one of these receipts and gets a free coffee. Good idea.

Coffee isn't essential to life! You could almost buy a jar of the stuff for what they charge in places like Starbucks.

Warming and somewhere to sit to drink it, could be a life saver Willows. Essential nutrition to you or I perhaps not but to someone who has nothing could be just that important.

That sounds a good idea.Went into a book shop a few weeks ago that had a coffee shop in and sat down and had a read of my new book for a while. I expect some people will abuse the idea .

Yes, I've heard of this too Sandy, an American idea, probably was Starbucks.
Good idea for cities and big town centres.

Perhaps look at it from the side of someone who has no home or food then you may get it.

Agreed. Even having the chance to come in from the cold and sit with a hot drink, with a bit of dignity, is a good thing. One other article I read about this concept said some shops also let you buy a sandwich and "suspend" it for someone in need.

There are shelters for homeless folk to get a meal and sleep or shower, but not everyone who is homeless feels at ease going there.

They could buy a meal with what a place like Starbucks charges for their coffee, so no I don't get it!
