Advice needed

Ok what I know about gardening you could write on the back of a postage stamp as they say. I have recently cut down a large weed I think you may call it but its base is quite thick say a couple of inches I cut it back every so often but how do I kill of the stump now as I want to get rid of it altogether is there a product I can buy to on this to do the job for me ?

Re: Advice needed

You can get stuff to paint on, not sure what it's called though. I've used systemic spray on weedkiller on stumps before & it's done the trick.

If it's a tree or a shrub you're trying to kill there's a product whereby you drill holes in the stump and pour this product in the holes. I can't remember it's name but any good garden centre should put you right.

Re: Advice needed

Are you sure it is a weed and is it that hard to dig up? No one to help? If it is soft then ordinary weed killer.

Re: Advice needed

THe dreadful PAMPAS GRASS was only removed by a block & tackle or by having a huge bonfire over it. Sounds like you may be in this category.(Just a couple of last ditch ideas.)

Re: Advice needed

If you can drill a few holes in the stump and pour salt or caustic soda in the holes, it should kill it quite quickly.

Re: Advice needed

If it's Japanese Knotweed you'll have an awful job to kill it, plus you have to notify the authorities, if it spreads to neighbours, I believe, they can prosecute. You have to get an expert in to kill it! I hope it isn't. x

Re: Advice needed

Do you have a picture of it?

Undiluted roundup or spk can be poured into holes in trunk.

Japanese Knotweed has a hollow trunk and can be killed the same way.

Re: Advice needed

Drill the holes in the stump as previous others have advised, then pour some neat Jeyes fluid in them.It worked on the stumps of some very thick stumps I needed to get rid of. Good Luck!!
