They grow anything in Africa that the eu grows,( and more)?
And its much cheaper than eu stuff.
Im sure they would be delighted to sell to us as the eu adds a tariff
to anything they sell into eu to protect eu growers from competition!!
Thus forcing eu consumers to pay more for their food !!

I've been thinking about this over the past few days and have come to the cynical conclusion that if our food importers andsupermarkets carry on importing food, fruit and veg from Africa after Jan 1st, will they reduce the price to reflect the fact there are no tariffs any more? Or, will they keep the prices exactly the same and pocket the extra money as higher profit margins?

Hi

We are not changing our Global Tariffs, we have published them.

Food from outside the EU will be subject to the same Tariffs as the EU unless and until we sign FTAs

Hi

No we didn't.

We had rationing, a Land Army and even then we relied on Imports.

Our Population is much bigger now.

A return to rationing would be a Political Disaster.

I think you are going back to the war years and immediately after now swimfeeders. I remember the wine and milk lakes also the cheese, beef and grain mountains in the EU in the 70's and 80' when 'set aside' was introduced when farmers were subsidised for letting fields go fallow;

Hi

Yes we can, but without a Trade Deal it will be subject to our published Tariffs.

Re: EU warns UK of cheap food after brexit!!

Cheap food or not .... I'll probably continue to buy cheese & wine from the Portuguese deli, fresh pork, smoked/pickled fish & bread from the Polish deli, fresh fruit & veg from various indi retailers, and the rest from one of the big supermarkets.

I didn't vote in the 2016 referendum with my own personal finances in mind, I voted for what I thought was best for the future of the underdeveloped EU states.
