I dunno..........
You can easily tell just by looking at how they are joined together. If they are welded then they contain plastic the "paper" is plastic lined so this can be done. That is why they won't compost

Enjoy your cup of micro plastics.

Re: Storm in a Teacup

Sue and I attended a Chinese tea ceremony when we were in China.
We had many different teas including one from a flower head. I can tell you from first hand experience the chinese use boiling, or as near boiling, water to make cups of tea in a large jug. then poured into small cups without handles. I could not really see the point of turning the cup around in the hand a couple of times before taking a sip

Re: Storm in a Teacup

I know tea should never be boiled, but pouring water from kettle to pot should cool it sufficiently. And that's official.

My ancestors would say, take the pot to the kettle, not kettle to pot.

There was a BBC TV programme about plastics usage in the home recently with Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall presenting. The plastic used is polypropylene (the same stuff as used in large laundry bags). There are some tea suppliers that are now using cotton-based bags that are compostable. The major suppliers such as Taylors of Harrogate are developing their own replacement bags.

I usually drink Chinese green tea. You only need a good-sized pinch in a mug. Pour in just boiled water and leave it to steep for around five minutes before drinking. No need to stir.

A very peculiar combination I agree..wasn’t it Jamie Oliver who rewrote the NHS menus? Maybe he owns a Swede farm?

Re: Storm in a Teacup

I completely agree with what the link says about water temperature. That also applies to making a proper cup of coffee. If the water is too hot, too much tannin ends up in the drink and a bitter taste results. So, I make my tea/coffee using water that is between 195-205 F (90-96 C.) which happens to be just prior to the boiling point.
