I haven't travelled on SNCF, but when we were last in Germany we didn't take our car and travelled everywhere using DB.

Apart from one (local line) cancellation due to a tree having fallen on the line, there was never a problem. Trains were on time, carriages were clean and never over-full.

Why can't ours be like them? (Rhetorical question.)

There has also been a large increase in the number of private freight providers, many relatively small such as*Rail4chem*and*ERS Railways, but the national companies still control the majority of the traffic.*Deutsche Bahn*has expanded considerably in the rail freight market, with the purchase of the freight section of the Dutch railway company*NS*(now DB Schenker Rail Nederland),*EWS*(UK), and DSB goods (Denmark) amongst others. The French state rail company SNCF also expanded through acquisitions, raising the possibility of trans-national virtual monopolies on rail freight replacing former national monopolies,*or a potential*duopoly*between SNCF and Deutsche Bahn in most of western Europe.

It seems that even when you are out of the EU they still own a big chunk of you. There may be hope for you and clean trains.

Their governments invest heavily in them something ours should do but the problem is that here if the government invests in private companies the lefties get all upset.

After the germans buy your trains they will invest in them. You are on a winning streak with them.

When British Rail was split into the privatised TOC and FOC franchises a separate company Railyrack was formed an manage anf improve the infrastructure l. Railyrack ended up in administration in and out of the ashes Network Rail emerged in 2003 as a not for dividend company tasked with maintaining, renewing and enhancing the infrastructure. Work on operational railways is massively inneficent compared to others industries. The governing rail body, initially the SRA and latterly the ORR determine the money to be spent by NR in 5 year periods. The funding has been quite significant and NR has been required to derive year on year efficiencies of between 15 to 20%. Access constraints, minimising disruptions any supply of key resources limits how much physical work can be done. All this is on the oldest and probably the most complex railway in the world.

The privatised train operators do provide new rolling stock and the leasinng of the trains is built into the bids so the government is investigating in an infected way

It’s the other way round

The new Thameslink trains are Siemens 700 class and Siemens is also Network Tails largest supplier so they have both bases covered

Hi

False News.

The Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of its German Parent Company.
