Re: Swiss Army Knives

I've tried Swiss Army Knives but I don't like them, I find them too small and fiddly

I prefer an Opinel - Search for them on t'Net

Handsome knives indeed but not very useful for a traveller since, as far as I can tell, there is only one blade per knife.

So, if, while travelling, you need a corkscrew, screwdriver, saw or a pair of scissors, an Opinel wouldn't be much use .....

Also, in the UK, it is illegal It is illegal to carry a knife in public without good reason - unless it’s a knife with a folding blade 3 inches long (7.62 cm) or less, e.g. a Swiss Army knife (a "lock knife" does not come into the category of "folding pocket knife" because it is not immediately foldable at all times) and some of those Opinel blades are well over 3 inches - one is 12cm, which is nearly 5 inches.

Opinels are fantastic and much stronger than you'd give them credit. I have a no.8 and no.9. One stainless, one carbon.

However, as Omah said, no good for edc.
You also have to remember there are large swiss army knives as well, like the forester I posted a picture of and this one shown next to the Farmer. Although, this is also locking so no good for public carry.
