Re: Three cheers for our fishermen!

I hope it works out, but I can see it turning into a re-run of the 1970's cod wars, at least it would if we had any warships....

It wouldn't be that difficult nor expensive to equip our coastal patrol's with the required equipment.

Once we are out of eu, we really need to look at our selves and try to build us up again. I'm not sure putting us down and saying we are not able is a good idea, makes me wonder if we have the oomph any more to do things and that's not good for our rivals to see.

Unfortunately our fishing fleet is now owned by large companies...gone are the days of our fishermen owning their own boats.

This will never be the case again.

Not altogether Tpin go down to Dorset Devon and Cornwall and you will find lots of fishermen who still own there own boats and I understand it is much the same around various parts of the coast.

My DILs best friend married a fisherman with his own boat who lives and works on Mull. He catches lobster mainly.

I'm hopeful we may be able to change that in time, perhaps not my lifetime but our grandkids perhaps.

One thing I have learned in life is if we want to change things badly enough we can but we have to have the will to do so.
