Yep, looking from afar these negotiations will be very interesting to watch if the invective and dissent generated in this forum is anything to go by.

Your problem is that the EU has all the experienced international negotiators who have done all the negotiations for you in the past 40 years or so. Britain has a lot of catching up to do and only two years in which to do it.

As for trade deals? I don't blame the EU separating them from the leaving negotiations. Trade deals take a lot longer than two years even with experienced negotiators.

I think Australia has been negotiating with the EU for 7 years over a trade deal and while agreement was close it was still not finalised

Hi

Yes Bruce, a very valid point.

We do have a lot of catching up to do.

It is not an insoluble problem though, providing our Politicians are up to the job.

The issue is however public opinion here in the UK.

You can see it on here in spades, cut pay for the Eurocrats, cut pay for Government Employees.

People follow the money, the best are very expensive to employ and we are trying to do it on the cheap.

That is why we have hundreds of vital jobs still unfilled and why the EU is paying them a fortune and locking them into Contracts.

The British Disease I am afraid.

Since 2010, Cameron and Osborne have savaged well qualified and experienced staff in the tens of thousands, often cutting their salaries by up to 30% before getting rid to save on Final salary Pensions.

They are not happy wombles and the current offers, to return to work, on Zero Hours Contracts at £35 an hour are a joke.

The best are being hoovered up by the EU and Foreign Companies at 4 times that amount with Guaranteed Pay.

An example, the EU Medical Agency, it is leaving the UK.

Pharmaceuticals ate a major export for the UK.

We will need to certify our own, set up our own agency.

All the senior staff are leaving, no one left, a big hit for the UK.

When we leave, we will have to certify all our Food Exports, no longer covered by the EU.

To do this, the person certifying must have an Advanced HACCP Certificate.

A simple choice, £35 an hour working for the UK Government on zero hours, or £42,000 a year full time.

Absolute peanuts, the EU food producers, even those based in the UK, are offering £50K a year plus £10 a container for the signature.

Seventy containers a day for a large size operator, ten a day for the smaller ones.

Do the Maths, it is not Rocket Science.

it's time for intelligent behaviour, not knee jerk reactions. Those who may react towards Brits won't be those who have businesses in Gibraltar or have a stake in keeping us sweet. Let's hope we speedily move past this and focus on the real negotiation issues. It's a distraction.

Re: Another little adventure

What a stupid and irresponsible thing to say, and report in the news.
Britain certainly has a way of making friends and influencing people.
Our fight is going to be with the EU not individual countries, we need to keep them onside.
We should give Spain the deal with Gibraltar they have asked for. Didn't all the residents of Gibraltar vote to remain in the EU? We should let them have their wish under Spain's wing. They can't have their cake and eat it.....

It's interesting that we are prepared to go to war over a silly dispute with Spain who want a share in Gibraltar, but closer to home, are practically giving Scotland away without a fight.

Re: Another little adventure

Hi

An update.

Spain has now backed down unconditionally about Gibraltar.

http://news.sky.com/story/spain-tell...altar-10823224.

It was important that we set the tone and not give in at the first whiff of grapeshot, so to speak.

Re: Another little adventure

Uncle Joe; Uncle Joe you sound like a silly socialist, but maybe you'r more intelligent than they are or maybe you have a shorter memory than me.
Mrs T bless her took over from labour in '79 and as ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS happens; when Labour leave power we were BANKRUPT. Check it out; EVERY time labour leaves power the Country is in a state of BANKRUPTCY. There has NEVER been a successful Labour Government. I could go on.
Since starting this reply I've read a few other comments and I must admit I don't know where some of these ideas come from, many are in cloud Cuckoo Land.
Swimfeeders, Spain hasn't backed down at all, it was just a 'red herring' a wind up. The real fight will come when the Fishing issue comes into focus.
Old Grey Fox, I agree that although it could have been put better; all that was meant was 'don't pick a fight with us if it comes to a fight we don't give in'. Point 2 we aren't thinking of "going to war" with Spain all we have to do is ignor their silly statement and move on; peacefully.
Swimfeeders again David and George took over a Bankrupt economy; there had to be cuts; blame the silly socialists for the lost jobs. Thanks to Labour this Country was Bankrupt in 2007 BEFORE the Banks crashed in 2008! In spite of the Lib Dems we now have the strongest economy in the G7, we also have record low un-employment and record employment, none of these things happen by accident; they made the right decisions for the Country as a whole. I really don't know where to start with some of these comments, perhaps I should shut up and de-register. M P R

In all my year's of visiting Spain as a tourist (50) and a property owner (20+) on the Costa del Sol I have yet to experience any negativity/hostility from a Spaniard regarding Gib.
