Re: Free school meals, Labour's new big idea

Hi

The latest National Statistics I can find are from last year.

It was 14.6% for state primary schools.

This a national average though, there are massive differences between areas.

I am against free school meals for all, it is yet another step in the direction of people thinking the state are responsible for everything.

Thanks Swimmy, so let me amend my first post by saying that it seems ridiculous to fund free school meals for all when 85.4% of families can afford to pay for them...

Re: Free school meals, Labour's new big idea

Sounds like a nefarious way to ensure the "state" can pump the crap into kids mouths that they want to. What will the content of "free" meals be like?

Fresh vegetables and meat with good providence?

I seriously doubt it.

Just another way to rinse public funds through red tape, to create a school food budget which of course will have numerous black holes down which the money will disappear leaving kids to be fed poor quality meals made of nasty cheap ingredients.

Don't do it. Feed your kids real food.

It's confirmation of just how desperate they now are to buy some much needed votes.

They say they're going to fund all these free school meals by increasing taxes on parents who send their children to private schools.

I wonder how Diane Fatbott feels about that!

Re: Free school meals, Labour's new big idea

Just another not seeing through Labour idea as usual. The intent to add VAT on private school meals to pay for free meals in state schools. So what would happen? small independent schools would not be able to cover the added VAT so would close, pushing more children into hard pressed state school for places. That would then mean the state having to pay out more resulting in tax increases for you and me.

No wonder labour are loosing voters hand over fist with desperate measure to make hem look good like this

exactly as has been noticed and mentioned before By JBR

Barry, I'm really sickened by the envy and spite that emanates from the minds of the socialist politicians and is seen on this board as well.

These pathetic plebs will not be happy until everyone lives in a standard designed 'box' of a size judged by some bearded left wing loony as appropriate for the masses.

I've had a lot of experience of the communist regimes of post war Europe and the thinking is exactly the same, but they (of course) make sure they get what they want.

One tends to make a joke of it but if the communist regimes are anything to go by it's no joke, people will end up in jail, or even just disappearing, for daring to send their children where they want them to be educated, dressing them in clothes that are not state approved, and a whole lot more.

If this is the best that Labour can do as a big policy idea then they will truly sink without trace.

In a word, Pathetic.
Just another cranky Labour idea. They will never see power again; so the whole discussion is academic.
