I've had a lot of experience of the communist regimes of post war Europe and the thinking is exactly the same, but they (of course) make sure they get what they want.

One tends to make a joke of it but if the communist regimes are anything to go by it's no joke, people will end up in jail, or even just disappearing, for daring to send their children where they want them to be educated, dressing them in clothes that are not state approved, and a whole lot more.
Don't worry about it Labour will never see power again! The discussion is academic.

Re: Free school meals, Labour's new big idea

I wonder if Labour are thinking of offering free MacDonalds meals through the school holidays too?
I have no children but have been happy to pay my share towards them being educated, yet they are now expecting people to start paying for the food that all children in state schools eat.
I believe that feeding your children should be your responsibility, after all, Aldi have an ad that shows you can do school lunches, for one child, at a cost of £3.73 for the whole week.
God help us if Labour win another general election!

All the little semi-detached folk on here seem to have no idea of what it is like for families with young children nowadays.

And why should they? No one forces couples to have children. And I don't even live in a semi.

I great deal easier than it was when I was a child that's for sure. There was real poverty in those days.

Always been expensive bringing up children, the difference is now people want children before they can afford or house them.
Sue and I like most of our generation were bought up differently, set up a home first then children

I live 200 yards from the local primary school, where most people bring the children to school in nice cars, well dressed in school uniforms and all looking fairly healthy. Hardly a case for other people to finance school lunches, is it?
School children don't get overweight by not being fed!

No wonder labour are loosing voters hand over fist with desperate measure to make hem look good like this
Indeed. The Labour party has never had a proper grasp of economics, as evidenced by their root principle of 'borrow, borrow, borrow; spend, spend, spend'.

How true.

When I was a kid, my dad bought a small corner shop. Having paid for it (on a mortgage) and the stock, he had exactly one shilling to his name, which he placed in the till.

I have always thought that working out whether you will be able to feed a child before you produce one is pretty basic, something most of us did in our child rearing days, before Labour started doling out benefits like sweeties just to enslave the poorer section of our communities and thereby to secure their votes. A complete and utter useless shower.
