Lidl is the Cheapest Supermarket

I've just seen this and apparently Lidl is the cheapest supermarket to do your essential weekly shop. I might have to change over from Tesco.

Same here, not that we have a Lidl close by anyway. My nearest is the Co-op & then Tesco.

I found Tesco products to be very low in quality, we never shop there anymore.

Same here, I used to shop at Tesco regularly at one time but don't anymore. There isn't a Lidl near us so I can't comment on that one.

Re: Lidl is the Cheapest Supermarket

Looking at that list in the OP there's only 6 or so things on it that I "regularly" buy.

I go shopping once a fortnight. When I physically go shopping I use Tesco, purely for convenience. There is a Lidl but it's in a parade of 6 other large shops who all share a car park of around 50 spaces so there's never any parking.

The nearest Morrison's is 20 miles away but they've recently started doing deliveries in this area and I'm finding I do more and more grocery shopping online with them. Some of their stuff is much better and cheaper than Tesco. Plus for a couple of quid I get all my shopping delivered directly to my kitchen so no lifting heavy bags.

I use Tesco for the fresh stuff that I'm reluctant to buy without seeing first.

Good afternoon and welcome to the forum, Tom Sharp!

Aldi, Tesco, Iceland or Asda. I don't shop at Lidl.

I don't have an Iceland near me unfortunately, I did shop there a while ago and it was very good.

Price isn't my priority when buying food

My priorities are:

provenance
quality of produce
shelf life of produce
Origin of produce

I don't buy any meat from supermarkets, it's crap and I don't trust the provenance

Vegetables vary massively across supermarkets and change constantly.

Morrisons used to be good for veg but then went down hill

M&S which you pay more for, tends to have veg that goes out of date and useless in just a few days so I avoid them.

Aldi's veg is, for me, crap that has been shipped half way around the world. Not for me. I want to buy British as far as possible to support the country and local producers. There's so little British produce in many supermarkets unfortunately so I avoid those that don't support British produce.

Our choices are going to have to get better post BrExit.

We need to pull together and Buy British as far as possible even if that's more expensive than crap shipped half way around the world.

Cheap is not a good yard stick for food imho.
