A teacake is one of those breadcakes with sultanas in it that you eat toasted and cut in half. Like at that little cafe on the seafront at Hornsea.

Or alternatively, those spherical chocolate-covered marshmallow cakes in silver and red foil that Tunnock's make.
Surprisingly enough, your description is for a teacake consumed in Derbyshire. I ordered a ham salad teacake from a sandwich shop while working there a few years ago. It came with currants in it - that's why WE call it a currant teacake in West Yorkshire to differentiate it from an ordinary teacake.

Can't beat a toasted currant teacake as a simple and cheap breakfast.

I am addicted to toasted teacakes. Whenever I'm out with friends I have to have one with a coffee mid morning. If the cafe we go in doesn't have them we find another that does.

Bun here in Glos/London, or roll but roll is a name mostly for the long ones.

A burger in a bun, a hotdog in a roll.

A "bun in the oven" is a nice way to say "up the duff".
