Re: Trump ,his wall

I hope we never stop migrants coming into this country, we need them. Besides which, as I have said before, this country is built on incomers, many of our ancestors would have been migrants.

There is always a place for people who have a value greater than their cost but there must be no place for those who represent a loss. We definitely do not need them.

[QUOTE=The Artful Todger;1753216]Social cleansing is finding and expelling people who have illegally entered the country.

How they live in detention centres where they are fed, clothed, receive medical care, education for their kids all being paid for by tax payers?

[B]If they don't like it then let them apply to be returned to where they came from.[/B

And no, dear heart. No final solution. Just deporting burglars.
With your background perhaps you should have couched your terms in something other than `cleansing` and all that that implies?

The Supreme Court decision only relates to the $2.5bn Trump was trying to “divert” from the military Defense Budget funds to spend on upgrading 100 miles of border fencing.
It’s a drop in the ocean of all the funding he would need to fence off the whole 2,000 mile border but, even this little bit equates to a cost of $25 million per mile of fencing!

He has been scrabbling around to scrape up the money he needs for other bits of border fencing by diverting funds from various other budgets too.

It seems a strange way to run a country - they have two elected “houses of government” to control what the taxpayers funds are spent on but, if they decide a specific project is not cost effective and the majority vote not to spend funds on it, the President can just divert funds from budgets that have been approved for other purposes and go ahead with a project that has been voted down.

Whatever one’s opinion of whether the border fence needs upgrading or not, whatever one’s opinion on the cost effectiveness of a $25 million per mile fence, the way the President is using a backdoor method of funding doesn’t sound very democratic, if the President can override the decisions of Congress in this underhand way.

Nonsense. Had I written genetic cleansing or ethnic cleansing would have been ill-advised at least, but social cleansing is a totally different thing.

OK well what does "social cleansing" mean? Maybe I need to get out more but it seems to me that you have quite a few alternative policies you could look at rather than just "kick them all out"..Sorry to use my own country as an example but why not?..Apart from a few demented religious fundamentalists and racist fringe dwellers/ dweebs etc and the fringe party politician they support - which you will find anywhere in the world these days - Australia is a very successful multiracial/ multicultural society. We have as many different cultures and nationalities as Britain does. THey all seem to get on quite a bit better. We have strict border protection yes. I don't support the detention centres in Nauru and Manus and processing of asylum seekers should be done on shore IMO. But any affluent country has a moral and arguably legal obligation to assist genuine asylum seekers.

Re: Trump ,his wall

A country has responsibilities to its citizens .
Allowing the unlimited immigration of hundreds of thousands of ECONOMIC migrants will only lead -as it has done -to social unrest and the rise of the right wing parties
The cost of unlimited immigration falls not on the well off but the poorest of the host countries citizens .
It is they who will have to complete with low skilled workers for employment housing schooling and medical care .
Mass immigration will benefit no one .
Of course Trump should have his wall the wall that will attempt to stop the tsunami of people arriving from just about everywhere its only only common sense .

Re: Trump ,his wall

I don't know why people think illegal immigration is OK ... it isn't - people that enter a country illegally, are criminals.

The USA has a process for people to enter their country and it is a process which looks at all cases to make sure people coming to live in the USA are not a threat to the citizens that are already living there (legally).

Migration is one thing, illegal immigration is very much different.
