... how I love social documentary photography

A few days ago I took pics of people on the steps of Eros, and thought ... what great social documentary, I hope people will enjoy these in 50 years time.

Then googled steps of Eros and found a beaut from 50 years ago.

Great photos d00d. I love the first pic of Slade (who'da thought it)?

I also enjoy social history pics, particularly those of the area I live in or have lived in. There is a great website run by someone I knew when I was a teenager. Whilst I was out drinking and meeting girls, he was busy snapping everything and everyone with his camera. It's great to look back on and see all the faces I recognise but can't always put a name to.

Where I live now there are many old pics of the Town on the internet but sadly most of them are of the church or the town square, hardly any of my road and certainly none of my house. That's a shame because I would love to see a pics of my house as it used to be.

.... and the people on the streets 50 years ago ... hippies, skins, bad haircuts mostly. The house I live in was featured in two different python sketches 50 odd years ago.

LD, have you tried asking at your town/city/county hall? They would have archives. There may be a victorian society, we have one. Go to your town's wikipedia page, click on the references at the bottom. Do you have a local community website where discussions include local history?

Yes, have tried all those things at some point d00d. It just seems that no one has aimed a camera at our house and clicked. There are some partial pics of it in the background but nothing very good. The house is 140 years old so you would think someone would have. I'm always looking though even on facebook.
