Amazing Grace

Yesterday at the POTUS Party the BBC called it American.

It is not. And here it is sung by someone who can sing.

Re: Amazing Grace

Beautiful hymn, but you are most correct about the writer! I am just surprised the Error was by the BBC.

I'm not. Occasionally I see something in the news concerning a subject I know about, and know it is incorrect or not true. I then think, I wonder how much news concerning subjects I know nothing about is also incorrect.
Multiply that by the number of news articles per minute/hour/day that are pumped out, then multiply that by the number of mainstream news outlets, doing the pumping.

Then add bias and spin on stuff that is true.

We used to have a saying at work. Trust no-barsteward.

Re: Amazing Grace

The man who wrote the music William Walker was American
It was sang during the Civil War

John Newton wrote the words .

Except for the last verse which was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe .

Those Roundheads and Cavaliers were a musical lot, Oliver Cromwell was well known for his jolly rendition of "I'm Henery the Eighth I am" while his "Pretty Polly Perkins of Paddington Green" was a real show stopper.

Re: Amazing Grace

OK, we'll call it Anglo-American then.

Wikipedia says:

"Amazing Grace" came to be an emblem of a Christian movement and a symbol of the US itself as the country was involved in a great political experiment, attempting to employ democracy as a means of government.
