Wouldn't the money be better spent reinstating all those branch lines closed down in the 1960s. Offering those in less accessible areas better facilities.
Of course it will never happen, not enough votes in it.

If its 100 billion plus, so be it. We have been funding every other fckers railways in the EU and never got a penny back for HS2 or any other of our rail or road networks.

Let's build the best railway in the world, then give all the jobs to British companies and British people, then stick two fingers up at the EU, its cohesion fund, member state contributions and competitive tendering policies.

120 billion over 10 years is 12 billion a year, the yearly budget for the NHS is over 130 billion. It isn't that big a deal considering a lot of that money will come back into the UK rather than being distributed around Europe.
