Re: Election Coverage

I have enjoyed following the US elections, it has been entertaining and nail biting.

The outcome will effect all of us in some ways and we need a strong voice at the table when it comes having some muscle against Russia and China.

I don't like either candidate and find it amazing that a country the size of the USA couldn't produce a dynamic youthful candidate with a good brain. Apparently according to friends in the USA who runs for president these days is all about how many dollars they have behind them rather than ability.

Re: Election Coverage

Groan! it's like watching paint dry!!! Every time I look the figures are the same Biden 253. Trump 214. It's been the same figure for the past 48 hours! I do wish ONE of them would pass the 270 mark so we can watch something else. If it's not the 24 hour saturation coverage of the USA elections, it's Boris bashing by all the media, either over Covid, Lockdown, Brexit,
Furlough, devolved governments with their hands outstreched for more, more, more money. It's all so depressing.
Think I will hibernate for the Winter. Someone wake me up when it is all over please.

The question I have is why do UK TV broadcasters seem to have a fixation on the US election, to the extent that there are a plethora of programs discussing and even reporting it as though it were a UK election? The UK never seems to have anything like as much interest in the elections involving other countries, and usually might just report the final result with a couple of minutes (if that) comments.

So why are BBC licence payers being forced to pay for extensive coverage of an election which has no obvious direct bearing on UK policy? For heaven's sake, even today's broadcast of Treasure Hunt was shoved onto BBC2 so that BBC1 could cover the election!!!!
The fact that there are over a dozen related topics, on this forum, is a reasonable indicator that it is really quite interesting?

Is the reason we find it so interesting because it reminds some people of how comparatively ..... sane ..... our own politics here in the UK looks, even with the fiasco of Brexit and the desperate Boris-bashing and blame related to Covid?

Or is it a mixture of the above together with our media's biased and false insistence that a change of POTUS will somehow make any great difference to us here in the UK for whatever reason?

Our comparatively sane politics took us through the Brexit Mismanagement, the Corbyn years, the High Court writs, the inter MP spats, the media bombardment.

It was quite soothing to watch the USA to see how it should be done!
