You do realise that Ulster consists of 9 counties, 3 of which are in Eire.

The danger is that there is a double dip.

What do you think? Are things going to get better or worse where you live?

To me what today is referred to as Northern Ireland will always be Ulster and that such things as changing the name of the Ulster Constabulary
to the Police Service of Northern Ireland was one step of the path towards a "United Ireland" the very thought of which sickens me to the stomach.

When you consider that Northen Ireland is a gerrymandered entity in the first place, I wouldn’t be too surprised if a United Ireland comes about relatively soon,

I would love to know how you think that could happen?
Realistically.
Because the obvious reaction from the very significant number of unionist Irish will likely bring about the very thing that the GFA avoids, and I for one do not see any answer to that dilemma.

Ulster was anything but gerrymandered.

As far as I’m aware the GFA recognises that NI is a part of UK unless / until a majority of of voters on each side of the border wish it otherwise. In which case both governments are obligated to bring their wishes about. It’s a numbers game in NI. It should be remembered also that the 3 republican/catholic counties were shaved off Ulster in order to ensure a Protestant majority in the remaining 6. Like you say, the consequences of a border vote for re-unification may well be awful. Frighteningly enough, there were some voices in the Orange Order of Scotland threatening violence if the 2014 vote returned a “yes” vote. How you deal with that kind of mind set is beyond me too.

The GFA is in place to avoid the violence.
Uniting the island would undoubtedly see a return to violence because that would be ignoring the wishes of a large proportion of Irish who do not want to be anything other than British.

Given that NI came about specifically to avoid such problems it is a puzzle why those who want independence do not just move to Eire?
Surely that way the protesters achieve their wishes and both sides are happy.
Another option of course would be for large numbers of Protestant British to be envouraged to make NI their home.

Here's a thought for you to consider:
We British can legally live in Eire if we choose.
What would happen if (just say) ten million (or more) Protestant Brits decided to move to Eire?
