Brexit: Daily round-ups

I think it might be helpful to have a thread just for daily round-ups that the BBC post every night on their live feed - for those who don't want to read through the hundreds of threads/news stories that are almost certainly going to follow.

The thread will remain locked and the mods and I will do our best to update every night

(Feel free to start a dedicated thread for any topics that you find interesting)

Tuesday roundup
Posted at 23:08 28 Jun

Here's a roundup of another dramatic day:

  • David Cameron declares that "Britain will be leaving the European Union but will not be turning our backs on Europe" as he attends his final EU summit in Brussels
  • A motion of no confidence in Jeremy Corbyn has been passed by the party's MPs - but the Labour leader says he will not resign
  • The European Parliament's first debate on the UK's vote to leave has been marked by bitter exchanges
  • The new leader of the Conservatives should be in place by 9 September, a week later than initially mooted
  • Tax rises and spending cuts will be needed to deal with the "shock" to the UK economy caused by leaving the EU, Chancellor George Osborne has said
  • Nicola Sturgeon addressed the Scottish Parliament and has set up an expert group to advise on the aftermath of the Brexit vote

Wednesday round-up

Here's your Wednesday round-up:

  • Angela Eagle will challenge Jeremy Corbyn for the Labour leadership on Thursday, the BBC has been told
  • EU leaders say they won't compromise on freedom of movement if the UK wants access to the single market
  • Work and Pensions Secretary Stephen Crabb is the first to declare his intention to stand to succeed David Cameron as Tory leader and prime minister
  • The French president and Spanish prime minister have both said they are opposed to the EU negotiating potential membership for Scotland
  • The Lib Dems say more than 10,000 people have applied to join the party since the UK voted to leave the EU
  • The FTSE 100 has surged through the level it closed at last Thursday, recovering all of the ground it had lost in the wake of the Brexit vote

Friday round-up
Posted at 00.07 2 Jul

Here's the Friday round-up:

1. Michael Gove outline's why he's had a change of heart and decided that despite years of saying he wasn't equipped to be prime minister - he's now the right man for the job after all.

2. Chancellor George Osborne abandons his target to restore government finances to a surplus by 2020, saying the economy is showing "clear signs" of shock following the vote to leave the European Union

3. Labour's John McDonnell outlines Labour's vision for Brexit, saying free movement of people and labour would end and the UK's relationship with the EU, including immigration must be debated

4. Boris Johnson wishes Michael Gove every possible success, in his first comments since deciding not to contend the Tory leadership

5. And finally... the three water cannon bought by Boris Johnson for Britain's largest police force for hundreds of thousands of pounds are set to be sold off - without ever being used.
