Long jumper loses meet because of ponytail

"Nastassia Mironchyk-Ivanova literally lost the world championships by a hair.

The Belarusian long jumper would have won the gold medal in last week's competition in Daegu, South Korea, had it not been for her long ponytail that hit the pit and was used as her measurement."

I guess I understand the ruling, but it really seems unfair. Any thoughts?

Hi Sue it does seem to be a rather harsh decision but I guess the adjudicators were observing the rules.

The young woman would have been wise to enclose her hair in a bun, no doubt she will next time.

That does seem harsh but rules are rules ..... I see the American girl who won gold had her hair in a bun, sensible girl!

Yep, rules are rules, and it would seem this particular rule was clear cut, sometimes life ain't entirely fair, but as you say some athelites took steps to prevent such a situation arising, that means they had more dedication and planning so that 'edges' it for me.

Sport these days is not just about muscles, you only have to look at tennis to see that.

I'm afraid it's like Losos says, rules is rules, but I know how Women feel about their hair, if you got good hair flaunt it, maybe her vanity cost her the medal.
Some of those grunts in tennis sound very suggestive and should be censored so as not to offend us sensitive Men.
