When it comes to robot movies I thought the Bicentennial Man was a heart string tugger.

My mother had donated her old portable black and white tv to my son, who was 8 at the time, and who really wanted to watch this film as it had been advertised for some time. Realising that if I sent him to bed he would end up sneakily watching it alone, and wanting to see it myself, I decided he could watch it with me. He snuggled up next to me on the sofa and watched without a word. At the end though I realised that he was softly crying to himself, and worried that he had been really scared I asked why he was so upset. His response? "They didn't have to kill him, he was only hungry, they could have fed him".

Ah the innocence of youth.
