No I dont think they are 'echoing' at all .....
The media itself is to blame for the lack of standards today, people are sheep like, they 'do' copy, thats a sad fact.
So called adults in the media are not setting standards to live by at all.

Wouldn't get away with that now.
I'd rather 'that' was acceptable - than what they do find as acceptable to broadcast and print .....

You all had to talk 'like that' - where a dinner suit, evening dress - just not relaxed. Now - they are too relaxed - the elastics positively drooping !!
I agree they were OTT in the beginning but I'm not certain that standards have dropped that much, I'm talking of news readers here.
A little swearing in comedy can be very funny.

The drink and cigarette never bothered me, but I wasn't keen on comedians using innuendos. Williams, Horne and Murdoch etc., never found that funny.

News readers always look great to me, wasn't talking 'dress' as such, where standards are concerned ......

Re: Dave Allen

I am afraid he is one of several comedians, Dick Emery, Stanley Baker, Charlie Drake are others who I didn't find in the slightest bit funny. Didn't raise a titter.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of one current comedian who can tell a joke without 'effing and blinding in the punchline. ?

I think Dave Alan was in a category of his own with his particular style.
He was rather an attractive man too

We quite like Andy Kind he doesn't swear nor is he unkind or cruel which is a refreshing change.

Several American comedians I can think of don't swear either. It seems to be a British problem more than any other.
