Canoeing and kayaking

My husband and live an area with the worlds largest fresh water supply in the form of lakes and rivers which we make the most of by kayaking and canoeing. It’s so much fun. We’ve done many long interior canoe trips ,... some as long as 3 weeks with long portages. We’ve met plenty of bears, lake otters, beavers, muskrats, herons, eagles etc

Here are some recent pics of our adventures

Have or do any of you go canoeing or kayaking?

You are so lucky Bratti!!
Water and mountains add another dimension to your life imo!
Canoeing is nice as you can carry quite a lot of stuff and still be
mobile, you and your old man look like you take full advantage of
your enviroment??
In answer to your question, yes l did a five day white water trip
down the river Doring in SW South Africa a few years back and it
was a memorable trip for us!
Sadly the mind is willing now but the body is creaking too much!
Thanks for the pictures and give your dog a pat for me!!

Donkeyman! 👍👍😁😁😁👍👍

Re: Canoeing and kayaking

Thanks Donkey man. Right now we are only doing day trips. The first day was almost 15 kilometres. The second trip was about 10 kilometres. We are planning on doing a smaller trip maybe for a couple of nights but nothing longer. Luckily my husband is over 5 years younger than me which I like.

I will pet my dogs for you. They really are adorable.
Thanks

White water rafting involves paddling.
Did you get very wet? What type of wildlife did you see?
What’s Africa like?
Do you have any pictures?

Do your dogs have to wear doggy life-jackets too, Bratti?

No our dogs didn’t have life jackets and even if we had them they would have had heat stroke wearing them than not. The river isn’t that wide and I’m an incredibly good swimmer who wouldn’t let them drown. I won’t wear one. I could do more if capsized without one. I’m a long distance swimmer with Red Cross life saving skills who is a confident both in and on the water.

Yes it was a great time, thanks.

I have been canoeing plenty of times in Oz as many waterways in Sydney have canoe hire. The last time tho that I canoed was in 2017 in Thailand. What an exhausting time I had as I was pushing against a strong current.

This was a much more enjoyable day a week later as I was not doing the paddling.

Thanks Mups. I AM It’s a conversation my husband and I definitely had before we left because we could have easily bought them.
Next trip will be the kayaks again. While I love having the girls with us , i do fuss and worry about them so much. We kept watering them down , had mattresses for them to lay on and an umbrella to block the sun exposure some.

How are your dogs doing by the way?
