Predictive Text

Before I throw this stupid thing at the cat - how do I switch off predictive text?

The cell phone is an Alcatel One Touch - just 'inherited' it from a friend who is determined I should have one. Nothing in the manual - nothing in the phone menu - no reply from Alcatel.

Help!!

Predictive text has always amused me. When I used to text my Mum, it would change 'Mum' for 'Nun' - how often would anyone need the word 'Nun' in their text?

Re: Predictive Text

My new iPad Pro has gone completely mad .
The auto correct no longer corrects and spells all sorts of nonsense .
I went on the apple community and it seems to be a problem due to updates.
No one appears to have a solution

Auto correct, predictive text and spell checkers generally drive me round the twist. As a qualified keyboard operator in the printing trade for around 40 years before I retired, these 'gismos' are not needed, I often turn them off. On my new MacBook Pro even this can cause problems as the default is 'On' so each time a new file is created or a new application is used it's on again! That might not be the case on an iPad, not using one though, I cannot say for definite.

To turn off spell check on iPhones and iPads:

There are ways and means of 'refining' the auto correct dictionary but it's all very involved. Far better just to turn it all off I reckon, see previous link and also the link below:

There are many publications that highlight Mac problems, one of these can be found on the link below. It is not an up-to-date item but does give ways of 'refining' spell check and therefore the inbuilt dictionary, if you wish to.

Possibly the best advice I have seen given out is to let Apple know of the problem, they can then include a fix on a future update.

A modern 'wonder' I can well do without, that's for sure. It doesn't help at all, in fact it often introduces more errors and definitely slows keyboarding speeds considerably!
