Not enough boats ?

We would bin everything not worth much overboard and keep going until the hulls are full of prime cod, bass and sole.

Not if licences were issued and catches checked when landed.

What's the point of catching it, if you're just going to throw it back again?

Re: Now This Is What Freedom To Act Is All About

If we ban super trawlers that would take care of the corporate
fishing companies that monopolise the quota systems at the moment!
This will leave more fish in the sea for the small owner operated
boats to benefit from !
This will not be popular with the corporates who will then apply
pressure on government by intense lobbying etc !
This is why government should have no say in the management of
the fishing industry, but it should be managed firstly by the scientists
and then the fishing community of UK, who decide jointly what needs
to be done,( with the scientists predominating of course!)
If the waters are ours legally, then nobody can interfere with what we
do there ( in theory) ?
If this is not so, then the whole concept of international maritime
law is a nonsense??

Hi

France banned pulse trawling in 2019, we could also have banned it when we were in the EU.

It is just a bit of grandstanding by Boris.

They wouldn't abide by the rules unless the zones were policed. I've seen trawlers coming in within touching distance, running lights off hoovering up all the sole on the Essex coast.

Banning supertrawlers, redistributing and reducing the TAC limits and shortening the fishing season / number if days at sea would be my way if doing it.

I'm afraid that we can't rely on the government to do everything that we want. After all, they only really have two motivating factors:
- our votes (unfortunately only every five years);
- their personal interests (which normally take priority, of course).
