I've said before that I think it's a bu@@er that I can't buy a British fresh crab or a British fresh lobster today if I want to!
There aren't any here to be had.
The government say that problems getting the stuff exported are down to teething problems and, from what info. is available - that seems to pretty much sum it up.
Nobody likes change and this is a big change.
It will take a little time for the dust to settle and for people to come to terms with the changes; that's only natural.
If it is more than that - well the EU processors, retailers and customers aren't happy either so that bodes well for a swift resolution.
Regarding what you ask Bread: the EU are already guilty of China flooding the continent with cheap crud.
They're more interested in protecting Spanish oranges and French cheese & wine than on putting tariffs on the huge volume of crud that comes from China.
The agreement the EU just reached with China isn't going to improve matters either IMHO, so Bread is looking pretty much spot-on when he says what we should be doing.
Isn't that Chinese agreement just to do with investments Zaphod??
BTW Germany has long had manufacturing plants established in
China, Volkswagen, mercedses, general electric to name a few!!
Probably explains the deteriorating quality of German goods??

Donkeyman! 👎👎
Indeed it is Donkeyman; investments.
As to the rest yes you're possibly correct.
Not so much regarding quality but because of the "biggie" - labour costs are far cheaper in China so at best it is exploitation.
Added to that of course is the problem that China pretty much refuses to recognise patents which means that the Chinese steal designs, not just for autos (although they do) but for parts and for many other things too.
Chinese morals and practices are very different to the recognised Western norms.
Here are a few "pirate" Chinese copycat cars, just to add a smile.
I believe the Scottish fishermen are not too pleased
Apparently they have had to dump a couple of truckloads of
shellfish due to holdups!
I think the answer to their problems would be to send their stuff
down to Billingsgate if it is still open, they would have no problem
shifting their stuff there, and it would be fresher as the trains run
right into London, so no traffic problems either ?? Seem daft to me that they send their catch all the way to Europe
and then send some of it back over here again ???
Surely we could use Billingsgate as a distribution centre for Europe
If they really want to eat our products?
The opportunities are exponential as l have been preaching for
the last 10 yrs !!
Yes, I have yet to hear any logical explanation for that either. Perhaps we are so used to being ruled by the EU that it has become second nature to send everything to them first and wait to see how much they give us back!
It would be very nice if Billingsgate could be the centre of fish supplies not only for us but for the whole of Europe. Perhaps if and when we ever regain full control of our nation and its territorial waters.

Oh dear, I hope not. We're still thinking of buying a new Golf.
I suppose that if labour is so cheap in China, then European manufacturers will want to outsource at least part of their production there. If when the goods come back to Europe they are thoroughly checked for quality, it might not be too bad though you never know.
Certainly if European goods deteriorate in quality, people will look elsewhere. Japan, for example, for cars.

Bloody cheek of them eh!
I know first hand of VW because l worked for them in South Africa
about 27 yrs ago building golfs and passers and we were chuffed
to get a contract supplying engines to a new VW plant in China !!
supposedly assembling golfs for the Chinese market ??
I say supposedly because we were supposed to supply the African
market, but most of our production went straight to the docks
and onto ships bound for god' knows where. ??
VW also have plants in Brazil& Mexico, wherever slave labour is
available! So they have got the world pretty sown up.
Even Japan has machine tool plants in China for the same reason!
I can't see the UK ever competing again in manufacturing, perhaps
we will have to eat fish in future, LOL !

Japan also have machine tool plants in China JBR, OKUMA for
one, and l expect there are other things as well in the appliance
line??
I don't think quality is an issue anymore because manufacturers
don't want their goods to last very long as they want to make you
another one in 3 to 4 yrs time???

I think when the day comes that they make our aero engines in China, it'll be the day I never fly again.
I can't wait to see how the EU will deal with China's pollution violations when it rolls out Von Der Leyens Green New Deal and carbon border tax policy.
I have a feeling they will turn a blind eye to China and only punish small countries they have some kind of influence over.
China's retaliation with all those trillions in cheap loans from the Chinese State Bank for the Belt and Road Project would put the EU at a massive disadvantage.
