Money, Money, Money

I am getting ready to go overseas next week so I was having a look at what foreign currency I have. I found about US $500 and about 130 Ringgit (which is what I wanted) but I also came across these left over from a visit to the UK a few years ago.

As there are nearly 800 pounds worth there are too many to keep as souvenirs.

I notice that the Bank of England promises to pay the bearer so presumably I can change them if they are out of date when/if I visit next year.

I only have 10 and 20 pound notes but I have a feeling these were the ones that were replaced. Is that the case?

On the bright side I bought them when our dollar was worth over 70p now it is 56p so I am well ahead

Hi Bruce.
I can't tell if your £10 notes there are the new 'polymer' ones or the old paper ones. Whatever, a bank should exchange them for you but you won't be able to spend them if they are the old ones.
£20 notes haven't been replaced yet, so they are still legal tender.
Enjoy your trip bud

The 10 pound ones are paper. So they have to be changed for new ones?

Yes they do. The Government in their wisdom changed our notes for plastic ones just before announcing that we need to cut back on plastic.

Yes Bruce. The paper £10's were replaced in Sept 2017.

The £20 ones are going to change some time in 2020.

I am sure any bank will still accept them.
We are still missing a ton of the old pound coins. You haven't got them, have you, Bruce?
Enjoy your trip.

Ever been to Hull, Aerolor? You could buy a few streets with £800!
