Re: Vitamin D Deficiencies

I've not tried Holland & Barrett so not sure. I just go my little local store but I can hand on heart say that it has made a significant difference.

I used to get a cold EVERY Christmas guaranteed and since I started taking them I've not had one, even if people around me have.

I went seeing a natural health specialist who tested my vitamin and mineral levels and told me to take these.

He also said if you feel a cold coming on then up the vitamin C to 6-8k milligrams per day for about 3 days and it will prevent it.

I do this also and believe it to work. It may upset your stomach a little though at that high dose.

Re: Vitamin D Deficiencies

Yes it is no coincidence that people get ill in the winter when there is a lack of vitamin D.

The mainstream media and medical profession tell people to protect yourself against the sun!

The sun is our friend and if you are of pale skin you only need twenty minutes exposure in the sun each to receive 10,000 units of vitamin D. I believe that it is the petroleum based sun creams that penetrate the blood system that cause cancer and not the sun unless you expose yourself excessively and burn.

Vitamin D is a hormone and a vital vitamin for building up the immune system, most people are deficient in vitamin D especially women, and pregnant women. When women give birth they are so deficient in vitamin D as the baby uses up so much of the mother’s supply of vitamin D. Osteoporosis and brittle nails and teeth are a sign of vitamin D deficiency. But mainly vitamin deficiency compromises the immune system and manifests into various illnesses.
You can request that the doctor injects high doses of vitamin D if you need it.

Eggs are a good source of vitamin D but they must be organic and free range to get the required benefits.
Be careful with fish as much of it has high mercury content (second most toxic substance on earth).

Margarine is not good for you despite what the TV adverts tell you. Margarine is jet black in its original colour and full of artificial chemicals, it is then bleached white and then dyed yellow! And with meat products you have to run the risk of eating growth hormones and antibiotics that the cattle are fed!
It is interesting that the iu recommendations on the high street vitamin D is 400iu!

That is nowhere near enough of the required amount. After researching this subject over the years and talking to alternative doctors who I respect I take 5,000 iu fluid capsules in the summer and 10,000 in the winter. Since I started taking my vitamin D supplements years ago I have never had any illness or pain in any day.

There is a lot of scare mongering by the mainstream medical profession who say too much vitamin D can lead to kidney disease! LOL.

A Doctor who spent many years searching for evidence that vitamin D causes kidney disease offered his students a sum of money to research the medical journals around the world to provide evidence that vitamin D causes kidney disease. 30 years later the doctor still has a hold of that money.

Around 30,000 people die each year through prescribed synthetic chemicals by their doctor.
In the last 30 years 10 supposed deaths have been attributed to over consumption of vitamins, and this figure is unproven!

Re: Vitamin D Deficiencies

Everyone can get themselves tested by post from Birmingham NHS path lab.

City Assays Vitamin D Blood Spot Test

You can find Healthy Origins, Vitamin D3 Drops, 5,000 IU, on Amazon UK, £15 Bigvits £13.94 or for the same money you could get TWO packs (and give one to a friend) from IHERB in the USA. There are introductory codes available if you search or ask.
So at less than £7.00 for a YEARS SUPPLY of vitamin D3 and only £20 for a Vitamin D3 test (if you share) it's not a big deal for anyone to stay vitamin D replete.
Do bear in mind the switching of Vitamin D3 from it's circulating form CalciDIOL to it's ACTIVE HORMONAL FORM (that resolves inflammation and fights infection) CalciTRIOL requires the presence of MAGNESIUM and ideally Omega 3 DHA.

So improving your magnesium and omega 3 intake at the same time you improve your Vitamin D level will see a better improvement than improving each on their own. This is one of the reasons why much research fails to show the benefits we would like.

Re: Vitamin D Deficiencies

The only Vitamin we dont produce ourselves is Vit C. Neither can Apes or Guinea Pigs and it must be added to ours or their diet.
Vit D is gained from the Sun and other foods like fish etc.
If the Sun is shining get out in it. It wont hurt you for 10 to 20 minutes.
You can get Scurvy if you dont get enough sun thats why they used to
put you under the Lamp if you had symptoms of Scurvy. My cats lick
their fur when they are out in the Sun and thats for Vit C and D.

Re: Vitamin D Deficiencies

Here in Tasmania we have a serious problem with Vitamin D deficiency, especially in older people - something to do with the ozone layer over us. While doing other tests my GP found I had a deficiency and I've been taking them ever since. It's also known to be connected with dementia onset. We have plenty of sunshine here and I told the GP I am out in it regularly - she said: but naked all day? Not wanting to offend the neighbours I'm on the capsules. As well as fish oil and calcium and magnesium for joints and muscles all on her advice.
