Sometimes it's ME that has the long or broken updates - not all PCs or conections are the same .....

That's because Microsoft knows you hate the latest OS and they are getting their own back.

Really though, that last update you did was likely a major one and subsequent updates won't (or shouldn't) take so long. If you keep up with smaller updates as they arrive, they often don't take very long to install. If you don't go with the flow and store them up, they are likely to take longer when you do eventually install them.

Windows 10 version 1909 could be due soon and this is the next update that will take a long time to do. It will possibly reset any customisations that have been made.

Don't shoot the messenger.

You're right. I do!

Interesting. If I permit ALL smaller updates as they arrive does that mean that the next major update will complete much more quickly?

If so, I'd be happy to do that.

The other question on my mind is what would happen if I managed to avoid ALL future updates? After all, I have noticed no improvements since the last one, or even any of the earlier ones.

Naturally, I'd be happy to update Windows Defender for obvious reasons.
