Just an attempt by the EU to subvert any trade deal between the UK and the USA.

Maybe, though the ill-feeling is mentioned in there together with "This is the first EU-US negotiated tariff-reduction in over 20 years".

The USA is our largest single international trading partner - without a deal being in place.
A deal would be good if it provides benefits, but it certainly isn't as necessary as some suggest.
Plus with the opportunities presented by CPTPP membership which we are on the way to joining, if the USA join as Biden wants there would be in reality no real need for a seperate UK/USA trade deal.

The EU tarrif reductions applies to all countries not just the USA under WTO MFN rules.

Just like other EU countries, they won't accept the potential damage that the EU can inflict until it is too late - as they will undoubtedly find out if Barnier and the EU head honcho's continue to insist on a no deal Brexit.

We know that the EU don't care about countries or ordinary people - look at poor Greece for a great example.
But ordinary EI citizens don't seem to see it.
Or "mostly" - as in mostly don't seem to see it; the Poles & Hungarians are finding this out now and can see who dominates and benefits most from the "union".

Telegraph is saying this, this morning:-

"Brexit: UK has given ground on fishing quotas, says Michel Barnier
EU's chief negotiator says Britain could accept 60 per cent of value of stocks from UK seas, down from 80 per cent"

I hope this is mis reproting!

Just the words "says Michel Barnier" are surely enough to convince you it's not true?
Would you trust a word he says?
I wouldn't.
If that's not persuasive, consider this:
If there had been a meaningful breakthrough such that agreement was near, especially if that involved either party moving on one of the three major issues, the other side would be hoisting flags; shouting from rooftops; and media would be extremely vocal.

None of this is happening and, in fact, we keep seeing the UK say we will not change our stance.
Like this from Gavin Williamson just this morning:
I’m confident from what I hear that progress, good progress is being made but we’re going to do a deal that is right for Britain, if such a deal is available,” Williamson told Sky. “If such a deal isn’t available then we’re not going to sign up to something that is to our detriment.”

https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-br...-idUKKBN28D0RR

IMHO it is (yet again) our media just desperate to imagine what is in reality not there, because there is no real news.
It will get worse as we get nearer the final day, too.
