Having to get up in the night.

Just lately I find I'm waking up about 5.30 am needing to go to the loo.

Problem is I can't get back to sleep at that time so I stay up. This makes me feel wretched later on in the day.

Anybody else have this problem?

Yes Carol, reading for a while helps get youback to sleep again.
Stay away from bright light, tv, mobile phones and computers.
A mug (or teacup if you live down south) of decaf coffee is very good also.

Oh yes. I am a type 2 diabetic and I also have a pacemaker/ defib implant. I have to take frusemide which reduces fluid as well as one other similar drug. I have to go to the toilet probably 6 or 7 times a day. I have to get up at least twice during the night more often three times. It's a pain but unavoidable. I go back to sleep straight way probably half the time. Other times I have to stay up for a while.

It gets worse as the weather gets colder.

Yes I get up to pee at least once a night but I usually fall right back to sleep.

I long for coffee when I wake up.

I know I just couldn't get back into bed & go to sleep until I've quenched my thirst for coffee..

So I have a mug of it & feel wide awake. (for a while)

That's why I mentioned decaf, Carol. A hot drink without the wired effect

Re: Having to get up in the night.

My problem is I wake up in the night needing a wee but I'm too lazy to get up and go, and then I can't get back to sleep because I get paranoid about peeing the bed

I hasten to add, I never have peed the bed!

I'm up most days at 5.30 anyway and don't go to bed til around midnight, sometimes it's later if I'm watching something interesting on the telly.

But....I have a sleep in the afternoons for a couple of hours. I have noticed however that sometimes in the afternoons I don't sleep so maybe I don't need as much sleep these days.
