Re: Thank God We are Out of the EU ...
Not true.
First although clouds of various particles do indeed lead to cooling that can last for three years or more (which in itself could become problematic for obvious reasons) scientists have found that major volcanic eruptions accelerate ozone destruction.
Since the ozone layer is already known to be depleted it naturally follows that anything accelerating further depletion will also accelerate global warming.
Once the temporary cooling effect finishes, of course.
"Study of ozone amounts before and after the 1991 eruption of Mt. Pinatubo show that there were significant decreases in lower stratospheric ozone (Grant and others, 1994). The amount of ozone in the 16-28 km region was some reduced by 33% compared to pre-eruption amounts. A similar reduced amount of ozone was measured in the summer of 1992."

Second the introduction of further CO2 from volcanic eruptions obviously further increases global warming.
Now okay, compared to human-influenced CO2 emissions then even large volcanic eruptions have only a negligible impact but it remains that there is an impact.
When the Philippines Mount Pinatubo erupted in 1991 that alone emitted an estimated 50 million tons of CO2.
Add the extra CO2 from a number of large volcanic eruptions in quick succession to the depletion of the ozone layer and global warming could quickly become a catastrophic event.
In theory, of course.
