My new Mobile

My mobile phone was playing up and not letting messages come through half the time.
I didn't know if it was a simple fault that could be rectified, or whether my phone was dying as it was quite a few years old.

I was with 02, so went to the 02 shop to ask what they thought was the matter with it.
The shop was empty except for the two sales assistants.
It didn't take long to understand why!

These two girl's English wasn't good, which made it difficult to understand each other for a start.
They didn't smile or feel welcoming at all.
They weren't remotely interested in looking at my phone or offering advice on repair, they just were intent on pushing me into buying a new phone off them. They were really pushy and insistent, which put me right off.

Their attitude was so bad, I left the shop.

Next, I tried the Car Phone Warehouse - what a difference.
The girl in there spent over two hours with me, talking about my phone and in the end, helping me choose another.

She set everything up for me, explained how to use it, sorted the Sim I asked for, transferred everything off my old phone for me - even the home screen photo of my dogs. She also said to go back anytime if I wasn't sure of anything and they would always help.

During the following week, I wasn't sure of quite a few things so called in the shop again.
Another assistant helped this time. Another 2 hours she spent with me.
She went through everything again, reset everything I needed and took ages explaining patiently (I am rather slow on the uptake with new technology), and she even wrote notes down for me to keep incase I forgot what she said!

Then the icing on the cake was, they didn't have a glass screen cover I wanted, but said there was a shop next door that sold things like that. She asked if I wanted her to come with me to make sure I got the right thing!
I couldn't believe how kind she was.

So she told her boss she would only be 5 mins, and escorted me to the accessory shop and told the bloke behind the counter what I needed.
He had the new screen cover and took my phone and fitted it on for me.

So now I have my nice new phone, and her notes if I get stuck.

How is that for extraordinary service?
I can't speak highly enough of the Car Phone Warehouse and their superb assistance.

A good result for you then Mups. I've bought a couple of phones from the CPW in the past and have always received professional service.

Thumbs up to them for going that extra mile for you. Good luck with the new phone.

I am glad you had good service Mups. Funny thing is that the second shop sold you a lot more in the end. So they were actually just a superior sales team.

Well we are all quick enough to moan Annie, so it's only right to say when we can give praise as well isn't it.

I had thought about changing my phone anyway, but the dreadful pushy women in 02 lost out because of their attitude.

I freely admit I am so pathetic with technology, so needed someone who would be patient and explain things, which the second shop did, so they got the custom the first shop lost.

It's an interesting case study though for how to sell. For O2 mobile sales are just a niche area. Carphone warehouse is totally focused on the mobile market.

Re: My new Mobile

Mups everybody wants to sell us something, but I think the ladies you spoke to at CPW listened and understood what you needed, in other words they offered good customer service.

When I get the service I want, I make a point of letting the shop manager know, or writing to their head office, giving the name of the person who provided the good service.
I also complain about bad service, because if we don't let the company know what the customer wants, how will they know?

The staff at CPW may have had to spend a bit more time with you, but it probably means you will continue to use that store...so bring in further business. Well done them!
