Your favourite gardening guy

I loved Geoff Hamilton, adored Alan Titchmarsh but I just can't warm to the others.
Alan and Geoff were more " down to Earth" and had lots of ideas for money saving and making your own stuff. They seemed to be more aware that we don't all have lots of space or money.
I do like Monty's trews and style of dress but, he's just not doing it for me.
Carol is good and that lady with short hair, Christine Walkden.

Who's your favourite?

Much the same as you Tess... Geoff and Alan too.

Monty - yep like his dress style too () but can't warm to him at all. As for the women, nope.

Carol's voice is a bit grating, but she knows her stuff.
Some of the younger ones seem to have strange design ideas.

Re: Your favourite gardening guy

Personal view for me, as follows

Percy Thrower he was the king of gardening. I met him a couple of times, surprisingly he was a serious gambler. Knew his stuff & a delight to his fans. Met him a couple of times professionally.

Geoff Hamilton. lovely man and so gifted as a communicator. Met him at Chelsea, like me suffered from Restless Leg Syndrome.Died too young, poignantly, his twin brother finished off some of his projects.

Alan Titchmarsh, can't stand the man, too fond of his own voice & a blatant self-promoter.Lived near him for a time, managed to avoid him.

Monty Don, very knowledgeable and well connected, today's guru of gardening & modest.Would like to meet, we have lots in common. Principally a passion for plants.

I met Percy too, had a book signed by him, I still have it, lovely chap.
I was madly in love with Alan I'm afraid, that was before I went on to beards...

Geoff Hamilton was my favourite, he could almost have been 'the man next door' with his ideas and friendliness...

Me too, but I also remember him doing a personal appearance at a dept, store where I was floor manager in 1970s.
Bless him, he was nursing a hangover from, spending long hours at a casino/nightclub the night before
Once in front of a crowd of mature ladies, he warmed up and glowed.
One lady piped up

"Can you identify this fern from a leaf Mr Thrower ?"

"Yes dear lady. you have a NEPHROLEPSIS BOSTONIENSIS
EXCELTATA" he replied confidently from behind a cloud of smoke from his pipe.
* Ok in those days

My wife , she loves messing about with growing veg and planting flowers.
Trips to the garden centres I go to as well for a coffee and sausage roll. I could not tell a weed from and exotic flower

TBH, I can't imagine him being into gambling and booze, with how he was portrayed on the TV.. Strange innit?
