The Road is a very harrowing and extremely bleak film, John, but a great one. It's a 'road movie' without cars. Viggo Mortenson excels in the lead role. The scene where the poor black guy is stripped so Mortensen character has some clothes is especially upsetting.

I haven't seen it but I've read the book, On the Road (2012) based on the Jack Kerouac book.

I wasn't even aware that great book had been filmed. Might look into that, thanks

As is the family trapped in a cellar and being used for food. I can imagine something happening like that after some major catastrophe.

After a nuclear war or some kind of acopalyptic disaster. Survival would be the aim at all costs; the sheer desperation to stay alive. Doesn't bear thinking about even does it Judd?

Does Paper Moon count as a road movie? I enjoyed that one.

I should think so.

I think that Planes, Trains, and Automobiles should be up there with the best of them too. A marvellously funny and touching in parts road movie.

This scene in particular when Steve Martin's character pulls his fingers out a their car's dashboard.
